  • National Level Seminar on Corporate Restructuring

A National Level Seminar was organized on 29th September 2007 at IDCOL Auditorium, Bhubaneswar organized by the Department of Finance, under the auspices of VISWASS. Eminent academicians, financial consultant, corporate head, experts and students of finance from within and outside the state presented research papers and participated in the discussion.

Dr. Jinesh N Panchali, Dean, Indian Institute of Capital Markets, Mumbai, Prof. Dr. V.K. Gupta, Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Indore and Mr. Bibekananda Mohanty, Registrar of Companies, Orissa, were the Chief Guest, Keynote Speaker and Guest of Honour respectively in the inaugural ceremony of the seminar. The inaugural

session started with the welcome address and introduction of guest by Mr. P.R. Gharai, Secretary, VISWASS. Prof. (Dr) S.C. Kumar Convener presided over the inaugural session while Mr. B.K. Mohanty Head of Department of Finance, VISWASS proposed a formal vote of thanks.
         The inaugural ceremony followed by two technical sessions. More than 25 papers, which were selected by a team of experts were presented and discussed. The paper presented dealt with various issue like Merger Dynamics, Prelude and Aftermath of M & A, demergers, Legal complexities related to M & A and so on. Majority of the presenters were of the view that uninterrupted, unchecked and without proper regulatory mechanism, M & A will adversely  affect public interest and dimune the firm's value. No doubt, M & A are not the ultimate solution for the success and survival but it is definitely one of the alternatives for realizing the objective of the companies.
          The day long discussion was followed by the valedictory function where the rapporteurs Mr. B.K. Mohanty and Ms. Kulveen Kaur briefly summarized the proceedings of the two technical sessions respectively. The entire proceeding was covered by electronics and print media.
