 SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS AND EXTRAMURAL LECTURES (SOCIAL WORK)
 

During an academic session, every second and third Saturday is allotted for holding seminars/workshops/extramural lectures being organized by the student’s seminar committee with the help of the faculty in charge. Eminent professors from reputed institutes, Universities, resource persons from the Government and Non-Government Sectors and personalities with grassroots level experience are often invited to present papers and deliver talks on various issues related to various themes. Besides this, the faculty and the students also present papers on different current and ongoing topics from the allied fields. This helps the students to sharpen their presentation skills and abreast themselves with frontal knowledge.

Dr.  Parida  focused  on different diseases and the medicines for its cure       and       prevention.       He highlighted    various    difficulties why  all  people  are  not able  to avail the health facilities in India. Human right is a comprehensive      concept      and shares   a   common    purpose   to freedom, well-being, and dignity for    every    human    being.    Our constitution     has     provided     5 fundamental rights of the people and no one can be devoid of it. A social worker must have an idea about   the   laws,   which   can   be useful for the people.

A social worker deals with many aspects of community life. Health is one of the major aspects of life, which should not be neglected. A large  segment  of people  in  the rural community are poor.  They cannot afford to costly medicines for  maintaining health.  So it  is very important for a social worker to      generate      awareness      on community health and its benefits among the people.

Prof.      Samal      explained      the meaning     and    interrelationship subsisting between liberalization, privatization    and    globalization (LPG).   He   cautioned  about  the possible adverse impacts of LPG on     the     Indian     society     and particularly  on  the marginalised and disadvantaged section.

Social work is the only profession, which deals with human beings directly. So it is important for a social worker to understand a human being. But before understanding others first we have to understand ourselves. We should be the prime factors for ourselves. The very first human value is 'Self esteem'. Unless we believe in ourselves we cannot work with the people. In the field the situation or the object may not be favorable but we should not depend upon the object more than we depend upon ourselves. Hence, it is very important to take responsibilities of our selves before taking responsibilities of others.
  Miss. Sarita Badapanda Bhubaneswar Living with HIV/ AIDS Miss Badapanda discussed about the symptoms, possible ways of prevention and spread of HIV/ AID across the states of India.

 

Dr. K.K. Rout Administrative Officer, Capital Hospital, BBSR Importance of Public health and hygiene Dr. Rout clarified that good health is a state of complete physical, social and mental well-being, and not merely the absence of diseases. He added that social health is of great importance for human being and it is the social worker that plays vital role to maintain and promote good social health. Describing more detail about health, he spoke on preventive health, investigation and creative health, Rehabilitative health.
