Orientation Programme
Orientation programme is organized for the students just after the admission at the beginning of the first semester. The objective of this programme is to acquaint the fresh student with the mission objectives, goals of the Institution, rules and regulations, course curriculum and programmes of academic institution, summer placements and practice skills. Attendance in the orientation programme is compulsory.

In-house Teaching Programme
A total of 28 papers have to be covered in two academics years. Each semester consists of 7 papers. Forty - (40) sessions are allocated for each paper, which include classroom teaching, case studies, and group discussions. In additions to the regular classes, extra sessions are held for workshops, seminars and project works. Extension/guest lecture series by experts like working executives; finance professional and bankers will be organized regularly as a part of classroom teaching. Audio – visual demonstration and computer application also form an integral part of teaching. The student shall have to make constant use of the library in order to complete the academic curriculum successfully.

Summer Internship
All M.F.C students shall have to attend summer internship for six to eight weeks duration in any company or financial institution by the end of second semester. Summer internship is mandatory for all students.

Field Work
Field Work forms an integral part of the teaching and training programme of the Institute. Field Work enables the students to integrate and reinforce the knowledge acquired in the classroom with actual practice under constant supervision provided by either member of the faculty or agency staff. The content of fieldwork is planned to provide an orderly pattern of learning. Field Work opportunities are provided through a number of welfare organizations, governmental or non-governmental, rural and urban. The field of intervention varies from counseling and casework in a correctional, medical or educational setting to community organization activities in an urban slum or villages.

A social work student has to do field work twice a week. Each student has to spend a minimum of 15 hours in the field under the supervision of a teacher. In an academic year, a student is expected to complete 60 days of work. Fieldwork timings are determined by project/agency requirements in consultation with teacher supervisor. The performance of the student is discussed periodically with the faculty supervisors in Individual and Group Conferences and evaluated at the end of each term.

Rural Camp (Compulsory for all social work students)
A rural camp is an important part of fieldwork for the students of BSW IInd year. It provides the students with an exposure to rural life, problems and issues related to development. It further enables them to plan, organize and implement micro-level programmes. They are also provided with inputs in research methodologies and techniques. A rural camp is organized for a period of seven to ten days in some interior part of Orissa. Visits are also made to local level organizations and statutory organizations of the area to get acquainted with the programmes being operational in the area.

Supportive Field Instructions
The objective of Supportive Field Instruction is to supplement the knowledge students acquire in the field with theoretical and demonstration inputs. They can be in the form of talks, workshops, audio-visual sessions, seminars, etc. Attendance is compulsory and will be counted for evaluation of fieldwork.

Internal Examinations and Assignments
Internal written tests will be conducted periodically and also home and library assignments will be given regularly in order to make an assessment of the progress of the students. Students’ participation is compulsory and the result will be intimated to their respective parents/guardians. The course teacher will decide the dates and time of holding such tests and assignments.

Project Work
Every candidate shall submit the Training Report on basis of the summer assignments and Final Project Report before filling up the form for appearing at 3rd semester and 4th semester examination respectively.
The candidate shall prepare the Project Report under the guidance of a supervisor to be assigned by the Head of the Department at the beginning of the summer training or fourth semester course.

Schedule Work
The Institute has a challenging and taxing schedule of work. On an average a student has to put in at least 40 hours of work in a week. On a regular teaching day, the schedule of work begins at 9:25 A.M. and ends around 4:00 P.M. On fieldwork days (2 days a week) the timings will be 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. or as per the timings of the placement agency. Although the Institute observes a six days working week, occasionally students may have to come on Sundays to attend and organize seminars, workshops or special fieldwork assignments. Presence of the student in the field at times may stretch beyond the prescribed hours to strengthen contacts with the people or to respond to special situations or needs including emergencies.
