 Being involved in education and research for more than two decades, at the personal and institutional level, I realized that there is a need to work with a more pragmatic approach, although in a small way, to educate, train and prepare youth with all commitment and dedication to work for creating a climate of social change in the direction favorable to foster human well being and ensure justice, human rights and living with dignity by the vulnerable people, who are not only socially and economically excluded, but also for those unaware of their rights and capabilities.
As a long-term development strategy and to realize the above said mission VISWASS was established in year 2004, under the auspices of SOHUM
WORLD FOUNDATION. Although, the institution is in its stage of infancy, yet it has made its presence felt as a leading professional institution in every nook and corner of Orissa, as well as among the academics, students, common people, research organization and developmental agencies for its innovative teaching method and various out reach action programmes for the benefits of the needy and un reached.
Our endeavor and the success we achieved within the short span of time are the supportive result of many-reputed personality, academics and like-minded person who envision usher a new beginning in the context of teaching and learning for the greater interest of the people of the state.
To say more emphatically, the objective behind establishing a social work institute was to bridge the institutional gap and to meet the growing needs of the Government and Non – Government organization in the state of Orissa. The end product of our efforts is to see in our students, the service attitude coupled with basic values of life; intellectually and humanly responsive, self-directing and contributing members of the society.
The ambience of the institute is such that the students enjoy the flexibility in matters of classroom teachings, practical field studies, participation in action programmes and establishing linkages with Government and civil society.
Keeping in view the institutional objectives and aspirations, the faculty members were drawn from the premier institution of national repute. The interest shown by many leading organization to recruit are students through campus selection testifies to our commitment and qualitative teaching.
Last but not the least the students of VISWASS are provided with all facilities required not only for the academic excellence, self-development but also to acquire such qualities to work as successful agent of development and change.
