Annual Day Celebrations (2007)

On Friday March 2,2007, Annual Day of Vivekananda Institute of Social Work and Social Sciences was celebrated with great fan fare and enthusiasms in the evening, at Rabindra Mandap where eminent personalities like Smt. Annapurna Moharana, a great freedom fighter, Swami Vairagyananda, noted Social Worker, Mrs. L.S. Rao, Mrs. Pratima Ghrai, chairperson SHOUM FOUNDATION, Mr. R. N. Senapati Principal Secretary, Dept. of Finance, Govt of Orissa Mr. Chinmoy Basu Principal Secretary, Dept. of Health & Family Welafre, Govt of Oriss, Mr. P. C. Tripathy Vice-Chancellor, Sambalpur University Mr. D. P. Ray, Vice-Chancellor OUAT and Honb. Finance Minister of the State, Mr. Prafulla Gharai was present on the occasion. The program was inaugurated with the lightening of lamp by the dignitaries with chanting of slokas from Veda by a group of students of VISWASS. Dr. S.C. Kumar, Co-ordinator (Hon.) of VISWASS welcomes all the dignitaries, guests, and the students. In his inaugural speech he acquainted with the genesis, philosophy and activities of VISWASS. Mr. P.R. Gharai, Secretary, VISWASS in a nut -shell talked on the on the aspect of the importance of the Institute in relation to the delivery of teaching and running professional courses.
Smt. Annapurna Moharana told the importance of the institute in building the 'self' of the students She also gave emphasis on the three major components that is essential to become a professional social worker like Productive Work, Service and Self- Study. Swami Bairgyanandaji in his deliberation projected VISWASS as social work institute that integrates scientific and spiritual approach towards providing education and training to the students of various disciplines . "Vivekananda who was the epitome of service and youth power once pronounced that the way to salvation is not just through worshipping but also more through dedicated service to the half starved and helpless millions who languish in poverty and deprivation. Service is the only way to salvation," remarks Swamiji. Swamiji and Mrs. Rao was felicitated on the occasion by Annapurna Moharana for their life time contribution for the service of the humanity. Mr. R. N. Senapati Principal Secretary, Dept. of Finance, talked about his long association with the institute. He expressed his satisfaction and as the institute as the Institute is progressing and flourishing in the field of professional education in Orissa. Principal Secretary, Dept. of Health and Family welfare, pointed out that knowledge, devotion and salvation is required for a practitioner. Mr. P. C. Tripathy Vice-Chancellor, Sambalpur University citing from the welfare philosophy of the Indian culture "Bahujana Hitaya, Bahujana Sukhaya " he said that "we should come out with a plan for the welfare and development of the people" Mr. D. P. Ray, Vice-Chancellor OUAT, addressed the gathering by making emphasis on the supplementary role that agriculture and rural development play in enriching the profession of social work. Hon. Finance Minister of the State expressed his satisfaction on the growth of the institute as a 'non-commercial institute' producing ideal professionals. He said that as" a Minister of Finance I believe on the quality outcome of the work not on the outlet which VISWASS is doing". He also officially inaugurated the Annual Report, 2007 of VISWASS. The three departments heads Dr. Anupriyo Mallick, Dept. of Social Work, Ms. Pratima Kar, Dept. of Nursing and Mr. Biraj Mohanty of Dept. of Finance read out their respective departments academic activities activities and performance. The programme was followed by a prize giving ceremony to the students who are adjudged as the best in the field of academic, co-curricular activities and the cultural events like dance, solo song etc. the prizes were distributed to the winners by the Chairperson, Mrs. Pratima Ghrai of SHOUM FOUNDATION. The programme ended with sumptuous dinner.
