NURSING EDUCATION

As such the nursing profession, along with the medical field through research and technological advancement has changed radically. Now it is no longer immediately comparable with the old legacy, but it has evolved as a science that involves the mind, body and sprit of the patients and also stresses on health education, health preservation and ministering to the sick, involves the care

of the patient, of environment, social, spiritual and physical, gives health care to the family, community as well as individuals.

VISWASS envisions is to be the number one in providing nursing and human care education not only in the state but also in region, with a commitment to foster an attitude of service towards society and imbibe the basic values of life in students. Moreover, the mission of the department is to provide a learning environment and prepare student for profession of nursing and to assist qualified nurses to develop as intellectually and humanly responsive, self directing and contributing members of the society.

The purpose of the General Nursing Program (B.sc Nursing and General nursing and midwifery) being imparted is to prepare general nurse who will function as a member of the health team with competencies of first level position in both hospital and community. The nurse completing the course will therefore be able to demonstrate awareness of and skills required in the Nursing process in the provision

of health care and nursing of patients. They will be competent to assess the nursing needs of individuals, plan appropriate action to meet their needs, take appropriate action to help people retain or sustain their best of health, work with other members of the health team and evaluate thy effectiveness of nursing and health care activities. The nurse will be able to apply relevant knowledge from humanities biological and behavioral sciences in carrying out healthcare, show sensitivity and skill in human relationships and communication, demonstrate skill in problem solving methods in nursing practice, demonstrate leadership skills, understanding of and commitment to professional behavior, ability in self awareness, self-evaluation in personal and professional life and promote health, precautions against illness, restoration of health and rehabilitation.

Spacious and well ventilated class rooms are very well equipped with modern teaching aid like LCD and overhead projectors, audio visual systems etc

Laboratory
Institute provides well-equipped nursing laboratory and are as per the statuary body guidelines, which can accommodate all student in a group.

Anatomy and Physiology Laboratories
This laboratory is mainly for 1st year B.Sc. (Nursing) students to facilitate learning difficult subjects like Anatomy & Physiology. This lab is equipped with human skeletons, latest models, charts and specimens. Latest CDs are available in Library to learn the further details of each system of body. The students also utilize the Anatomy Laboratory of People’s Medical College where cadavers are available for further learning.
The Physiology Laboratory has 100 seating capacity and students utilize it for practical demonstration of functioning of various systems in the body.

Nutrition and Biochemistry Laboratories
This lab is basically for 1st year B.Sc. (Nsg) students. The lab if is like a mini kitchen and fully equipped with modern electronic gadgets like food process, refrigerator and other utensils for practical demonstration of liquid, semi liquid, solid diet and develop the concept of special dietary requirements as per the disease conditions. The Biochemistry Laboratory at People’s Medical College is utilized to demonstrate various practical in Biochemistry.

Maternal and Child Health Laboratories
This Laboratory is for 4th year B.Sc. (N)
This lab is equipped to develop skills in conduct of safe delivery. The students gain skill in imparting comprehensive care to mother and children. All the articles and equipments are provided to the students as per the Indian Nursing Council guideline.

Medical Surgical Nursing Laboratories
This Laboratory is specially equipped for 2nd year B.Sc.(N) students to develop skills in providing advances nursing procedures.

CLINICAL TRAINING
The nursing student of VISWASS are trained at the premier medical college hospital (SCB Medical Hospital), Cuttack, Capital Hospital Bhubaneswar, Kalinga Hospital Bhubaneswar and also avail of the opportunity to work in all super specialized department.
