Vivekananda Institute of Social Work and Social Sciences (VISWASS) is a coeducational institute established in the year 2004 under the auspices of SOHUM WORLD FOUNDATION. The institute is duly recognized by the Government of Orissa and also affiliated to Utkal University. It is dedicated to provide on time need based qualitative education on various disciplines to students from all strata of the society. Its primary objective is to offer students a higher personal, professional, and intellectually challenging knowledge base within a multi cultural environment. VISWASS endeavours to imbibe in students the knowledge, skills, confidence, leadership, professional ethics, human values and discipline required in their career building both in Non-government and Government sectors and to work successfully for the Age, Nation and Humanity especially, the disadvantaged- SC, ST, OBC and all other marginalised sections of the society.
INSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVES

To recruit and maintain faculty who are
excellent and inspiring teachers.

To provide in-house environment for fostering
close student-teacher relations.

To impart teaching and training in social
work and other social sciences.

To educate men and women with a firm
foundation for successful lives and opted careers in
social and other development sectors.

To assure that the educational programmes
meet the National and International Standards.

To facilitate the job placements of the
students to begin their professional career.

To incorporate a philosophy of ethics,
sweetness, love and fellow feelings throughout the
Institution and the educational programmes in order
for students to become responsible and disciplined
citizens of the world.

To create and provide all such facilities,
services and amenities to assist all members of the
VISWASS family in achieving personal growth and
professional competency.

To solicit and receive economic support
necessary to convert the mission, objectives and
goals of the college into a real phenomena.

To pursue and offer courses, projects and
programmes that involves students in rural settings,
urban slums and community throughout the State.

To encourage students to participate in all
academic and auxiliary activities related to their
career building at the college.

To imbibe in students the values of self
discipline, self-motivation, and self
accountability.

To arrange lectures, seminars, workshops,
conferences etc. on contemporary issues for
enriching and updating the knowledge base of the
students and faculty.

To carry out research projects on different
fields and also acquaint students with social
science research methods.
15.
To undertake various action projects in the
areas of social work, socio-economic and human
development, child and women welfare.
16.
To publish monographs, books, periodicals,
journals, and research articles in the field of
social work, social development and social welfare
in the interest of students, researchers,
development agents, planners and policy makers.
17.
To serve as an intellectual, educational, and
cultural resource base for the state of Orissa in
particular and the Nation as a whole.
18.
To promote the philosophy, innovative methods
and approaches of learning.
19.
To promote a healthy relation and work
together with similar organizations to achieve
mission objectives and goals of the Institution,
starting from local level to International Bodies
and Institutions.
